top-notch shape! I mentioned the name Dexos. GM strongly recommends that you use and ask for licensed engine oils with the Dexos1 certification mark. Let's take a look at the Oil Life Monitor. This system will alert you to change the oil on a schedule consistent with your specific driving conditions & vehicle model. When the remaining oil life is low, either a CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message will appear on the display, or the OIL LIFE REMAINING percentage will near zero percent. To check this, press the Vehicle Information button until OIL LIFE REMAINING displays. If your vehicle displays a CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message, change the oil as soon as possible within the next 600 miles. Your dealer has trained service people who will perform this work and reset the system, but you can also do it yourself. By the way, If the system is ever reset accidentally, the oil must be changed, either one year, or 3,000 miles after the last oil change. For the Oil Life Monitor to work properly, it has to be reset every time the oil is changed, so that it can calculate the next engine oil change. Depending on the type of vehicle you own, there are several ways to reset the system. If your vehicle has a Driver Information Center, tap the button until it displays OIL LIFE REMAINING. Next, press and hold the SET/RESET button for more than five seconds. The oil life will change to 100%. If the vehicle doesn't have Driver Information Center buttons, there is another way to access this display. First, make sure that the vehicle is in Park. Then, press and hold the trip odometer reset stem for more than five seconds. The oil life reading will change to 100%. There is a third way to reset this setting. Again in a Parked position, turn the ignition to the ON position but with the engine off. Next, fully press the accelerator pedal slowly three times within five seconds. Use the Driver's Information Center or the Odometer method to toggle to “Oil Life Remaining”. If the display shows 100%, the system is reset. That's the basics on keeping you engine oil up to date. Remember, oil is the life's blood of your engine. Maintain it properly, and it'll help ensure years of enjoyment from your GM vehicle.
